Israeli Violence Against Palestinian Women and Children: Joint Report by DCI-Palestine and WCLAC

An October 2012 report by the Palestine Section of Defense for Children International and the Palestinian human rights NGO Women’s Center for Legal Aid and Counseling explores the relationship between Israeli military abuses of Palestinian women and children and the settlement of Israeli civilians in the occupied West Bank.

The report identifies “mass arrests and prosecutions in military courts” as a tool to “intimidate and instill fear” in Palestinians so that they do not challenge the growth of Israeli settlements. It points out that most detained Palestinians, including Palestinian children, are arrested in close proximity to settlements. It also identifies violent arrest, interrogation, and detention as intimidation techniques.

The report includes extensive testimonies from Palestinian women and children who live in close proximity to Israeli settlements. It also explores violent attacks by Israeli citizens on Palestinians as an additional method of intimidation.
